In Greek mythology, Water nymphs, also known as naiads, are female spirits associated with freshwater sources like fountains, rivers, and lakes. I like the idea of a guardian spirit who would take care of  the well-being of a river, maintaining a harmonious balance between the plants, animals, and minerals within its ecosystem.
